‘TELL’ and Final Cut Pro X!

This coming Thursday will have a full Film Riot episode going over the FCPX release. This has been one of the craziest product releases we’ve ever seen, so of course Film Riot is going to have to put their thoughts into the mix. Then the following week will start something totally new for Film Riot! Two episodes a week!!! Film Riot Mondays and Then the regular Film Riot on Thursdays! BOO YA! It’s going to be more content, with less Sponsors. On that week we will have an episode all on surround sound, and then Thursday will show the final shoot day of ‘TELL’. So… full slate coming! Very excited to say the least!

We want your FX tutorial on Film Riot!

We are starting a new segment on Film Riot that will showcase your ideas and videos!

So, if you have an effect tutorial that you have done, that you would like to see played on our show… Send me a link to your tutorial either on twitter or on our facebook!

Things to know:
Your video should be fast paced, entertaining and informative.  It must be something that we have not done on the show, or a different way to do something we’ve done on the show. And keep your video under 5 minutes! The shorter the better.

So get crackin’ and send us your best stuff! Because those who get their video played on the show will also get the website of their choice promoted along with it!

I’m in the middle of directing my first music video, which is for a great up-and-coming band called Easton (above is a screen shot from that shoot). I’m shooting the video with the Canon 5D in 24p. My main motivation for shooting the video with the 5D was it’s low light capabilities.
So… The first day of shooting was at a local lot. Once we got there and set up, we realized that the location had much less power provisions than what we were promised. So at this point I had half the light than what I planned for.
Obviously since I didn’t have enough lighting I had to crank everything up in cam. I didn’t want to go below 4-5.6 to retain a reasonable DOF, so I ended up having to shoot the entire video on 3,000 ISO! I knew the 5D was incredible with low light from testing it for Film Riot… But after watching the footage later, my mind was blown. The footage isn’t just usable, it looks fantastic. I am absolutely in love with this camera and am excited to put it to more real world tests as I shoot the rest of the music video with it.
So keep an eye out, I will be posting more as we go.

Check out the first page of my script ‘TELL’. The full script runs 29 pages long and is a psychological thriller. I’m not going to tell you what it is about… You’ll just have to wait and see.
P.S. In case you aren’t familiar with some of these terms. (O.S.) means “Off Screen”.  This is different from (V.O.) since (O.S.) is a character that is in the scene, we just can’t see them. (V.O.) which means “Voice Over”, is a voice that is not physically in the scene.
