I’m in the middle of directing my first music video, which is for a great up-and-coming band called Easton (above is a screen shot from that shoot). I’m shooting the video with the Canon 5D in 24p. My main motivation for shooting the video with the 5D was it’s low light capabilities.
So… The first day of shooting was at a local lot. Once we got there and set up, we realized that the location had much less power provisions than what we were promised. So at this point I had half the light than what I planned for.
Obviously since I didn’t have enough lighting I had to crank everything up in cam. I didn’t want to go below 4-5.6 to retain a reasonable DOF, so I ended up having to shoot the entire video on 3,000 ISO! I knew the 5D was incredible with low light from testing it for Film Riot… But after watching the footage later, my mind was blown. The footage isn’t just usable, it looks fantastic. I am absolutely in love with this camera and am excited to put it to more real world tests as I shoot the rest of the music video with it.
So keep an eye out, I will be posting more as we go.
